Chelsea are reportedly closing in on the
transfer of £40m Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa and have begun
talks through third parties in an effort to secure the deal before Costa
joins up with the Spain squad at the World Cup.
Brazil-born Costa has scored an impressive 31 goals for Atletico this
season, and gained Chelsea's interest back in January but the
25-year-old did not want to leave. Chelsea scouts have been watching the
forward this season.
Jose Mourinho has been looking for a striker
for next season with question marks over Fernando Torres, while Samuel
Eto'o and Demba Ba are out of contract at the end of the season. The
future of Romelu Lukaku, currently in his second loan spell in as many
seasons, is up in the air.
