Wenger didn't want Song back at Arsenal

Alex Song wanted to return to Arsenal this summer... but Arsene Wenger refused to buy him or Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas

West Ham midfielder Alex Song has revealed that he had hoped to return to Arsenal when he left Barcelona last summer, but Arsene Wenger didn't want him.
Song, who has been excellent since moving back to England, chose instead to join West Ham, while Arsenal declined to buy another holding player.
The Cameroonian claims that the same is true of Cesc Fabregas, who also wanted to re-join the Gunners, but instead moved to Chelsea.

'I would have liked to come back, but they didn't want me,' Song, who faces his old club for the first time as a West Ham player on Sunday, told L'Equipe. 'That's life. I'm not mad at them.
'Cesc also wanted to come back to Arsenal, who did not want activate their buy-back clause. It was surprising. When I see what he is doing at Chelsea. He is even better than before!'
The 27-year-old also revealed that he could have played Champions League football, but instead opted to play in England, turning down Roma and Napoli to be part of Sam Allardyce's plans.

According to La Gazetta Dello Sport, the former Arsenal man was robbed after he posted photos on social media informing fans he was going to be out of the country.
It is reported that the unknown culprits took tens of thousands of pounds worth of goods including jewellery and watches.

Ronaldo wishes everyone merry Christmas says 2015 will be better

If Cristiano Ronaldo has his way, and he so often does, this scene of the overwhelming favourite to win the Ballon d'Or relaxing by the pool on a luxury yacht off Dubai is the calm before the storm.
Ronaldo had a remarkable 2014, even by the Portuguese superstar's standards, but he believes 2015 can be even better.
'It would be a dream if 2015 was like 2014 or even better,' Ronaldo said in an interview published in sports daily As on Saturday.

A second Champions League was among Ronaldo's four titles and he scored an incredible 51 goals in 47 appearances, setting a record of 17 goals for one edition of of Europe's elite club competition along the way as Real secured a record-extending 10th continental crown and the King's Cup.
Since August 2014 he's amassed 34 goals in 27 matches in all competitions, with 25 of those in 14 La Liga matches a Spanish record that puts him on course to smash Lionel Messi's benchmark of 50 in the Spanish domestic competition in 2011-12.
But no, in Ronaldo's world - which at the moment means soaking up sunshine in the Middle East during La Liga's winter break - there is room for improvement. And it's an achievable goal, he says.
'It is possible to do it because Madrid is always a candidate to win the competitions it is playing in,' added the 29-year-old.
'We have a team spirit that can help us win the most titles possible and we will fight to the death to get them.'
Ronaldo attributed much of Real's recent success to the arrival of coach Carlo Ancelotti, who replaced the divisive Jose Mourinho at the end of the 2012-13 season.

Italian Ancelotti immediately ended Real's 12-year wait for their 10th European title and using the club's millions has built a formidable side that is top of La Liga and one of the favourites to repeat their Champions League success this term.
'The coach has a lot of importance,' Ronaldo told As. 'He is a great trainer and a great person and we are all delighted with him.
'Together we are a united family which will try to improve on the successes of 2014.'
Ronaldo will find out whether he has won a third FIFA World Player of the Year award, and his second in a row, on January 12 when he is up against Argentina captain Messi and Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

I will not sell Ballotelli-Rogers

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers insists he will not entertain the thought of off-loading controversial forward Mario Balotelli in the January transfer window.
Reports from Italy have linked Balotelli with Inter Milan and his former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini.
They have coincided with Rodgers admitting that Balotelli, who has started just eight league games since his £16 million summer signing, is struggling to come to terms with Liverpool's style of play. But with Liverpool still fighting on three cup fronts - the Europa League, League and FA Cups - Rodgers insists nobody will leave when the transfer window opens next week.
Rodgers said: 'It is not something I have even thought about. We have had a lot of games this season in a lot of competitions.
'At this moment in time, it is key for me to keep the squad together.'

Real Madrid alters logo to cater to sponsors

In order to appease their sponsors,  Real Madrid decided to alter their logo by removing the cross on the cress. The cross used to appear just above the logo.
Real Madrid first unveiled a cress with a cross on top of a crown in 1920, and have displayed a similar crest uninterrupted since 1941. The crest doesn’t have a cross because the club has any particular religious affiliation, but simply because that’s what the royal monogram of King Alfonso XIII (and many others) looked like.
But this is not 1920, and Real Madrid’s reach has expanded far beyond Spain. They’re signing extremely lucrative sponsorship deals in the Middle East, and one such deal in Abu Dhabi has caused them to adopt an alternative version of the crest without the cross. It should be noted that Madrid haven’t changed their crest, they just use a different one in countries where it doesn’t make business sense to have an affiliation with Christianity, or display any Christian imagery as part of their crest at all.

Arsenal offer €15m for Lucas Silva

Real Madrid are not the only club keen on signingLucas Silva. As previously reported by MARCA, United and Arsenal are the Premier League sides keeping an eye on the Cruzeiro midfielder. However, Arsene Wenger has gone one step further and sent scouts out to Brazil to make first contact with the player.
In doing so, Wenger looks set to be Real Madrid's main competitor for the 21-year-old's signature, a player who has just won the Brasileirão league title and looks ready for a new challenge in Europe.
According to reports in 'The Sun' newspaper, Arsenal, whose midfield has been ravaged by injuries, is studying the viability of signing the Brazilian. The Gunners are prepared to meet Cruzeiro's asking price of €15m, although Lucas would prefer to join Real Madrid.
Lucas Rocha is the midfielder's agent and the man in touch with the clubs. The truth of the matter is that Real Madrid have not made up their mind yet, despite already informing Cruzeiro that they would be prepared to offer €12m for their midfielder.
The Real Madrid board see him as a player with huge potential, but they are aware of the risks associated with signing a player midway through the season. Without taking anything away from Lucas, Real Madrid know that it is not easy to hit the ground running, especially when arriving in Europe halfway through the campaign.

If your seat at a football game was this?

Story for the gods though.
This poor fan had a nice seat on the field, but had a large pillar in his view for the QPR-Leiceister match.
QPR ended up winning 3-2, but this guy probably missed it.

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan believes he has done enough to win the 2014 African Footballer of the Year award.
The UAE-based striker made CAF’s five-man short for the award which includes holder Yaya Toure, Nigeria duo Vincent Enyeama Ahmed Musa.
Also contesting the prestigious award is Borussia Dortmund star and Gabon striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Gyan had a successful 2014 campaign after netting two goals at the World Cup finals in Brazil to become Africa’s top scorer in the history of the tournament with six goals and overtook Cameroon legend Roger Milla.
Gyan also won the UAE Arabian Gulf League goal king and the Asian Champions League top scorer award as well as the best foreign player in Asia.
The former Sunderland striker, who came close to winning the 2010 edition, believes he is the frontrunner for the accolade.
“Every football fan in Africa knows how I have done my best for my country and my club. I qualified Ghana as a captain to a third consecutive World Cup and now the top scorer at a World Cup and have won everything with Al-Ain and therefore with the support from my countrymen and the coaches on the continent this prize can’t elude me,” Gyan told Accra-based Joy FM.
Gyan’s fate will be decided by votes from the head coaches and technical directors of the national associations affiliated to CAF.
The 2014 CAF awards will be held on Thursday, 08 January, 2015 in Lagos, Nigeria.

2014, a golden year for Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the three players shortlisted for the 2014 Ballon d'Or and many people see him as the favourite to win the gong, thereby retaining his title as the best player in the world.
The 29-year-old has had a spectacular year, full of trophies and individual awards. His credentials include lifting the UEFA Super Cup, with Real Madrid defeating Sevilla in the final. The Portuguese was decisive in that match, scoring the game's only two goals.
And that trophy is one of a few competitions he won with 'Los Blancos' this year. Real Madrid also captured the Copa del Rey in 2014. CR7 couldn't feature in the final against Barcelona at the Mestalla because of an injury, but he made a significant contribution to his team lifting the cup, scoring three goals in earlier rounds.
The team's biggest achievement came in May. Real Madrid faced up to Atlético de Madrid in the Champions League final and eventually clinched their long-awaited tenth European crown after forcing the game into extra time. Cristiano Ronaldo got himself on the scoresheet with a well-dispatched penalty, giving him a total of 17 goals in the 2013-14 edition of the Champions League - a new record for the competition.
The Portuguese ended the 2013-14 La Liga season with 31 goals, making him the top goalscorer in Europe, alongside Luis Suárez, who also scored 31 goals for Liverpool.
